More knowledge about psychotropic drugs is not enough

From Mad in Sweden: In a debate article in Svenska Dagbladet on 4 June, two professors and a senior lecturer in psychology call for more knowledge about psychotropic drugs for future psychologists. They argue that this is necessary due to the steadily increasing prescription of these drugs to both children and adults. The authors of the article state that they aim to “integrate the competences of doctors and psychologists”. We note that true integration would mean complementing doctors’ studies with subjects such as psychology, sociology and social work, but the authors do not mention this. Instead, they focus on the need for more knowledge about psychotropic drugs so that psychologists can also prescribe these drugs.
