Brain scans by London researchers show why marijuana calms some people, but can cause psychosis or paranoid thoughts in others. They found that THC increased activity in areas of the brain associated with perception, while other substances in pot are protective of the same areas. This may be why smoking marijuana can have such contradictory effects, they said.
