Recovery Involves Social Support, Self-Reliance, and Trust

Researchers in Brazil followed sixteen individuals after a first-episode psychotic experience to understand their subjective experience of recovery.  They found that the participants described a slow and gradual process in which changes in social relationships, renewed autonomy and independence, and restoration of self-reliance and trust, along with a decrease in psychotic symptoms, were perceived as factors in recovery. Results will appear in an upcoming issue of Early Intervention in Psychiatry.
