AstraZeneca Settles Seroquel Lawsuit with South Carolina

The South Carolina Attorney General’s office has agreed to a $26 million settlement with AstraZeneca to resolve charges of misleading consumers on the potentially serious side effects of Seroquel. AstraZeneca failed to include a warning about the potential for weight gain and diabetes, though the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned AstraZeneca in 1998 and 1999 of the “false and misleading campaign in its promotion of Seroquel,” the lawsuit states. The FDA also noted that claims that Seroquel is effective in conditions including bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder, claims as to how Seroquel works and that it is safer an more effective than first-generation antipsychotics were also false and misleading.

  1. The company admitted no wrong doing. Until ceo’s of these drug cartels receive jail and prison sentences justice will ot be served. Why is it that these companies are allowed to get away with a fine, paltry compared to their profit? They include amounts of fines like these in their budgets as operating costs. It is dusgusting.
