“What The Hell Is Actually Going On?”

A cogent, insightful blog by MentalHealthCop reviews the literature for and against psychiatric treatment, including Creating Mental Illness by Allan Horwitz, research by Richard Bentall, Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whitaker, and Our Necessary Shadow: The Nature and Meaning of Psychiatry by Tom Burns and asks; “How on earth did we reach a position where we can force treatment upon people, when even the profession of psychiatry itself cannot agree what is going on?”

  1. This brief article, by a thoughtful policeman in the UK, is well worth reading. I myself have been a peace officer, as the generic term would be here in the States, and like the author, I tried to be very thoughtful about what I was doing. Here is a conscientious man who is asked, among other jobs of a cop, to pick up people and put them under the control of the mental “health” system. And he asks, “why?” And observes that when he contacts the apologists for psychiatry, he receives no answer. Read it!

  2. I agree with Ted; this article is worth the time it takes to read. It’s very interesting that he states he can get no responses or replies to his honest questions. He askes psychiatry for the proof that people like Robert Whitaker are wrong in what they state and he gets no response, other than that “they’re wrong!”
