Project Know, an addiction education website, has a graphical statistical analysis of mentions of different types of drugs in hip hop music from 1988 to 2013. Mentions of pharmaceuticals have increased more dramatically than any other drugs since about 2007, and in 2013 the benzodiazepine sedative Ativan topped the list, even outranking many popular painkillers. After those, the psychotropics Valium, Adderall and Xanax round out the top ten pharmaceuticals mentioned in 2013. Eminem and Lil Wayne were among the most common users of pharmaceutical drug terms.
