The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel has issued a watchdog report titled âIllness Inflationâ that examines how new medical conditions are often the product of industry groups aiming to create a market for expensive new drugs. “There are powerful interests that want the numbers to be inflated,” said Allan Horwitz, a professor of sociology at Rutgers University and author of “Creating Mental Illness.” “All of these estimates push the numbers upward.”
Gee, I’m just so fallbergasted and surprised by all of this!!!!!! Surely researchers and psychiatrists and doctors would never promote diseases and illnesses so that they can get paid by drug companies for pushing their products! Tell me it’s not true!
Those of us who’ve dealt with the system know that this has been going on for years now. No surprise here.
