  1. This is part of a greater social belief, now popular among Republicans, that personal acquisition of money and “stuff” is the only valuable human activity. I’m surprised that the GOP mavens haven’t tried to nullify the 13th Amendment, so budding tycoons could sell their children into slavery to get start-up capital for their fledgling businesses.
