Psychiatry by Jenny

Sighted
through your
pinhole spectacles:

the mystery
of consciousness;

the
timid
eccentricity
of suffering.

Inspected.
Silenced.
Then…
entombed
in your nomenclature.

Poetry
struck dumb
by your scribblings.

Tone deaf.
Colour blind.
You crush
with sightless gaze.

A stunted, squinting wizard,
no sky above
nor earth below.

Smiling Champion
of Enlightenment.
.
Yet heir
to powers medieval.

Power to deem
grief psychotic,
and suffering,
insanity.

To spruik your miracles.

To derange minds and physiology.

Power even
to force your Magic–
chemical and electrical–

Upon the Unbeliever…

To incarcerate

without due process.

To denounce dissenters.

To consign your failures
to utter despair.
