From STAT: Although many people believe that we need to train more psychiatrists in order to increase access to mental health care, there is no definitive evidence that psychiatrists alone provide better mental health outcomes than other clinicians. Some additional ways to expand mental health care that do not involve psychiatrists include shifting some tasks to physician extenders, integrating psychiatric care with primary care, and utilizing technology for mental health.
