I am a blogger writing from personal experiences in the psychiatric world. I love your story. I have been on psychiatric drugs for 30 years. I have attempted to stop them in the past and experienced withdrawal. The last time, was very bad and I checked myself into the locked psychiatric floors of my local hospital. I stayed for 5 days and was released to my family with an appointment for electroconvulsive therapy and more meds than I went in taking.
You can read my entire personal story on Mad in Americaās website and listen to it on Courageously You podcast with Tara Bixby.
Today I am looking for writers to guest blog for my initiative, Stories of Psychiatric Drug Users, with a focus on side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
I am openly inviting black, indigenous, people of color, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, and queer individuals to share their voices.
Hello Rachel! Thank you for this succinct and thorough account of your experience with psychiatric medication and the institutions that have unholy alliances with them. Much of your personal story resonates with me. I am 64 and it has been half of my life living within the system. I am still tapering off but I will not die before I live who I am fully again.
I have a blog called Life with Antidepressants where I tell my story and provide resources and I am adding guest bloggers who can testify to the abuse felt at the hands of the psychiatric industry. I would be honored if you would look at my blog (www.lifewithantidepressants.com), and my story here on MIA (https://www.madinamerica.com/2021/10/postpartum-anxiety-psychiatric-drugs-paternalism/) and consider sharing your story with my readers. You can contact me through my website if you are interested. Thank you!
Thank you! Your comment speaks to the heart of my critique. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I have no intention of staying under the spell of the Psych Industry. It has taken many years to find the right resources and understand how women’s socialization and our reproductive capabilities have made us an easy target for Big Pharma. Now I have the capability and knowledge to stop safely!
Thank you, Mad as Hell! I am so happy you are here and read my story. We all need one another, that is for sure. Many of us survive only because of the support.
I so appreciate your reading and commenting on my story! I’m sorry you can identify with my story, but I am not surprised! I have wondered myself what women did before we lost control of our bodies. I would assume we we stepped in to support one another when needed. Who else would?
Thank you, Susan! And. . .agreed! Don’t start. That is my mission. To tell my story and othersā stories to bring to light the myriad ways lives can be upended by a visit to a psychiatrist. And if you are in that world, challenge authority. Question your psychiatrist or general practitioner, and do it armed with facts. -A
Thank you for reading and commenting. I’ve never heard of it being related to mineral deficiency. That’s a big wow! I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for sharing -A

Yes, even a CNN news anchor claims SSRIs changed his life on the evening news. Drove me wild.

I agree! Every one of us experiences it differently and our needs during tapering are varied. Never one-size-fits all!
