In Global Research, psychologist Joachim Hagopian argues that both psychiatry and psychology as fields have come to be too much about making profits.

“As a practicing licensed psychotherapist employed in the mental health field for more than a quarter century, I can honestly say the mental health field is no different,” writes Hagopian. “For years it too has been engulfed and bought out by the sinister profit driven greed of Big Pharma. In the same way that the US health industry is not interested in curing cancer as a disease, as too much money is made from it, the amalgamation of the psychiatric and pharmaceutical industry is not about preventing mental illness, itā€™s about expanding and exploiting it. The calculated focus on ā€œpsychopathologizingā€ the general population to the absurdist degree of making everyone diagnosable translates into a mentally defective population perennially in need of a quick fix.”

  1. Way to hit the nail on the head, Joachim Hagopian. The article is well worth the read – we’re sane people living in a “sick and broken political and economic system rotting and decaying morally from within.” A society taken over by those who financed the Nazis and the big banks and corporations our founding fathers warned us about.

    Wake up, psychiatrists, you’re functioning as social control to maintain a status quo that is not worth maintaining, just like the Nazi doctors did. You’re functioning as social control to keep child molesters on the streets raping more and more children. Change and progress are needed, and a good thing at this point.

    We need to bring back our competitive, democratic republic – this means breaking up the large corporations and industries, including the banks, medical, and pharmaceutical industries, and curbing big government, and actually ridding our world of all the fictitious “mental illnesses.” We need to return to a country that is ruled “by the people, for the people,” where all people understand the importance of ethics and respecting all other human beings.

    Good God, the world ran amok “while I was sleeping.” Pray to God everyone wakes up and we can prevent WWIII. Time to get the “warrior elite” out of power.

  2. Yes, I think I get the idea now why the “war on mental illness” has degenerated into a “war on stigma”, while the “mental illness” population, so designated, goes only up up up up. Further, the mental health movement had, and has, a lot to do with it. It all began with locking up people who behaved, some say misbehaved, in ways which were disapproved of, but now if we can convince well people that they are “sick”, well, my how those numbers swell. Cha-ching.
