Community Peer Respite Planning Council is petitioning King County Council Chair Joe McDermott to fund peer respites in Seattle/King County, Washington. Help them get the needed signatures by signing on to the petition at the link below.

“Peer respite is a proven alternative to restrictive interventions for persons in crisis and has been shown to reduce Medicaid expenditures. Additional community-based supports are enhanced by peer respite services, such as emergency crisis services. Self-determination is a core value practiced by peer respite users and encouraged by peer staff. Unfortunately, self-determination is greatly reduced in restrictive institutions. Peer respite is an integrative model, appreciating whole health and wellbeing. Most peers would prefer being close to home in their community, rather than miles away in large hospital settings. The homelike environment of a peer respite can support peers as they travel on their chosen path of recovery.”
