Mad in America is hosting
a Mad Poetry Slam!
Poets with lived experience with mental distress who are critical of the drug-based paradigm of psychiatric care are invited to perform their poetry live at MIA’s Mad Poetry Slam on Zoom on May 7th, 12PM EDT/9AM PT/7PM CEST. Two to three poets will be featured and there will be an open mic for the last half hour of the event. Signing up for the open mic will be first-come, first-serve at the time of the event.
The deadline for featured poets is April 19th.
Poets can submit their poems to be considered to be featured at this event. Poets can send a text document or a pre-recorded performance of their poems to be considered to read live on Zoom at the event. MIAâs Mad Poetry Slam will be open to the public and featured poets will be promoted on our website, email and social media.

Guidelines and Benefits:
Call for poetry is open to all those with lived experience of mental distress.
⢠Poetry must be original to the artist.
⢠Poets can upload one to three poems.
⢠Poets can upload one .mpg (for videos) of their performance of their poem with a file size no greater than 10MB.
⢠Poets must include a short biography (not to exceed 250 words).
⢠Submission must abide by our community guidelines: The artwork content must NOT include illegal material, hate speech, discrimination based on identity or occupation, or calls for violence against any people.
⢠Only submissions that meet these guidelines will be considered for inclusion.
Poets will be notified of acceptance two weeks before the event.

⢠Potential inclusion in interview series.
