Establishing a network for safe tapering: Psychotropic drugs are not designed for quitting

From Mad in Norway: There is a great need for knowledge about tapering off psychiatric medications. Doctors know a lot about how to prescribe medications and increase doses, but face unexpected challenges when patients want to taper off and manage without the medications. This was said by Viviann Kihle Karlsbakk, chairwoman and one of the initiators of the Nedtrappingsnetværget. The network was officially launched at Deichman Library in Oslo on September 11, and has had its own website since Easter. Among those in attendance were therapists, relatives and experts in psychiatry. Hilde Marie Rekstad, known as an author and book reviewer in Mad in Norway, led the evening’s seminar with a steady hand. We heard several voices of experience and the background for the establishment of the network.
