From Mad in the UK: As a mother my involuntary psychiatric treatment profoundly impacted my young children, and it was also an even more difficult experience for me because of being a mum. My life, before being subject to the Mental Health Act, had centred around being the mother of my three children. As a nursery teacher by profession, being with young children was something I had always loved, and becoming a mother was my biggest dream come true. For all the struggles and exhaustion of looking after three small children quite close in age there was nothing I enjoyed more than snuggling up for stories, and baking together, and going off on adventures – whether into the local woods with friends or to all the museums and attractions we often used to visit around London.
