Another perspective on the Randers case: psychiatry is in deep crisis

From Mad in Denmark: “We have a mental health crisis. Existing approaches that focus on medication are not working. In the UK, the number of people unable to function due to a mental illness has almost tripled in recent decades, and the gap in life expectancy between people with serious mental health problems and the rest of the population has doubled. The WHO and the UN have therefore recently called for systematic reforms with an emphasis on psychosocial interventions. In 2019, a Norwegian study showed that 52 out of 100 consecutive patients admitted to a psychiatric ward would have wanted a medication-free alternative if it had been available. As I will demonstrate in this book, psychosocial interventions are clearly better than medication. So why can’t people get it?”
