To test the hypothesis that a heightened immune system response associated with schizophrenia is also associated with childhood trauma, researchers in Ireland looked at 40 patients and a matched set of controls, finding that patients with trauma show a tendency toward inflammation relative to both controls and patients without trauma. The results are published in Psychological Medicine.
