No Evidence for Antipsychotics’ Efficacy

In a review of 681 studies comparing use of antipsychotic medication with placebo, milieu, or psychosocial treatment in first- or second-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorders, researchers from Hong Kong, Houston, Los Angeles and Nottingham determined that there is insufficient evidence for conclusions about antipsychotics’ efficacy.  Use of medication rather than placebo reduced drop-out rate, but increased side-effects.
