Volunteers In Psychotherapy is a Connecticut nonprofit organization that provides strictly private and client-controlled psychotherapy, provided by multiple licensed clinical psychologists and social workers, in exchange for volunteer work our clients do, independently and privately, for the nonprofit or government agency of their choice. We work outside of the problems of the medical model and managed care insurance. No reports are sent to insurers about our clients’ personal discussions, and no misleading and destructive psychiatric labels become part of their permanent medical records. VIP has provided this nonprofit service for over 26 years in Connecticut now — and we also help others borrow from our approach in other regions.
We don’t provide assistance in tapering, but we’re happy to provide accurate information and discuss clients’ choices. On our website we have essays regarding the misleading and inaccurate medicalization of people’s emotional distress and confusion.
