From Mad in Mexico: Little is known about the risk of suicide in people treated against their will in involuntary psychiatric care (IPC). This population-based study offers a first comprehensive description of suicide among people who have experienced ICP. We study all the people who were discharged from the ICC in Sweden between 2010 and 2020. The clinical and socio-demographic characteristics are described, followed by the risk of suicide for the entire population in CPI, stratified by sex, age, history of CPI and diagnostic category. The gross and adjusted relative risks were estimated compared to all people discharged from hospital and outpatient psychiatric care and the general population by Poisson regression. Suicide methods, seasonal trends and geographical variation are also described.
