Tamsin Shaw, writing in the New York Review of Books, summarizes the most recent trends in psychology and moral judgement. From Skinner’s behaviorism to the “positive psychology” of Seligman and Haidt, Tamsin is critical of psychologists attempts to deal with moral reflection and reasoning. “Humanly created suffering will continue to demand of us not simply new ‘technologies of behavior’ but genuine moral understanding,” he writes. “We will certainly not find it in the recent books claiming the superior wisdom of psychology.”
