Testimony by Ferron

This week’s Song of the Week was recommended by MIA Reader Grace Nichols: “This song so well describes how women are asked to be a pale shade of their real selves. I was unsurprised to learn that Ferron is also a psychiatric survivor, as she sang of Doors and Doors of Locks, a thing that happens after trauma. Her vision of us all coming together to share with others the way to the “waters hidden from us” helped me articulate my own path to healing and through healing to community. Many a Ferron Song has kept me warm when the world was a very cold place. There is a special place in our hearts for the songwriter who shares our suffering and our victories from her own personal experience.”

Mad in America hosts blogs by a diverse group of writers. These posts are designed to serve as a public forum for a discussion—broadly speaking—of psychiatry and its treatments. The opinions expressed are the writers’ own.
