Season of the Witch by Donovan

This week’s Song of the Week was suggested by MIA reader Barbara Summers:

“My first encounter with psychiatry was in September of 2000 after I had a large benign brain tumour removed in hospital. After the surgery I was psychotic and lived in an altered world. Because it was Fall I thought the words of Season of the Witch were very true of my life. I listened to my favourite music on my Mp3 player as the doctors allowed it considering I was robotic without any facial expression or emotions. My husband and 12 year old daughter thought that if I heard my favourite songs I would be restored. If you read the lyrics you will see the connection with the fantasy life I was leading.

When I look out my window
Many sights to see
And when I look in my window
So many different people to be
That it’s strange, so strange

I was given Risperdal to fix my fantasy state but I really enjoyed it. After a few months it went away and now it’s still a powerful memory.”
