Rain by Nikhil Bajaj

The rain is falling down
collecting on my brain

If only running water
could take way the pain

My car is fogging up
with every shortened breath

Who knew I’d end up here
preparing for my death?

I always hoped
that someone would have seen
the way I was drowning
alone in a ravine

The ground is weeping mud
my shoes are full of dirt

I hear them squelch as I step
across the mourning earth
to a metal rail
protecting me from life

If only I’d broken
the ones that didn’t feel right

And holding me gently
you tell me it’s alright
and we would go
alone
today
tomorrow always with each other’s hearts!

Don’t tell me you don’t want to feel rain, now
collecting in the hole in your chest

And looking up
it’s like we’re underwater
a mile deep
falling asleep
holding my hand
as darkness creeps

Across our tired eyes looking down now
at creatures living on the seabed
that pull our feet
and drag us ever deep
where we can sleep

A quiet dream
for you and me
to fall asleep

I think about it now
what it feels like to drown

The water isn’t warm
if we’re at sea alone

So take my hand and we’ll
sing ourselves to sleep
