From Mad in Puerto Rico: The Restigouche Hospital Centre is under investigation for human rights violations against patients, reports Savannah Sawde of CBC Canada. The hospital is being investigated for the disproportionate use of physical restraints and ties. After these restraints, patients were left tied up for hours. Physical restraints in this hospital are to be used sparingly and only under the supervision of medical personnel. General staff are not permitted to perform these restraints without medical authorization or supervision. Furthermore, they should only be used if the individual poses a risk to others and after attempts to reduce tension have been made.
