When the news of Marius Romme’s death broke, I was reminded of how significant he has been to so many people. To many people outside the voice-hearing network, Marius Romme may simply be the name of a Dutch professor. But for thousands of voice hearers, their loved ones, and professionals around the world, he represents something far greater. Together with Sandra Escher, he helped launch a movement that challenged the dominant understanding of voice hearing and brought hope to people who had often been told that their future was limited by mental illness.
