Biopolitical Times discusses the recent historic decision by the government of North Carolina to compensate 7,000 victims of its forced sterilization programs that continued into the 1970s — many of them people with psychiatric or psychological challenges.

“Twentieth-century eugenics in the US is often systematically ignored,” writes Biopolitical Times. “The recognition of this history is timely because advances in genetic and reproductive technologies will put increasingly more people in the position of having to wrestle with questions about the kind of child they want – and don’t want – to bring into the world.”
