From Mad in the Netherlands: When she was fourteen, Lauren thought she was crazy. She didn’t think she was ‘clinically depressed’. That word only came later, when a doctor told her that she was. Last month Lauren came to Copenhagen to talk to me about her story. We rented a podcast studio, turned on the cameras and started talking. In the episode, which can be listened to here, she takes us on her journey: before the medication, during the medication and because of the severe withdrawal symptoms that overtake her when she followed her doctor’s advice to stop taking her antidepressants. It is a story about giving meaning, surviving and what happens when human experience is mistaken for a chemical defect.
