From Mad in Greece: This text was written on the occasion of the publication in Greek of Mary Boyle and Lucy Johnstone’s book “The Power-Threat-Meaning Framework as an Alternative to Psychiatric Diagnosis: An Honest Introduction” (Οι Εκδόσεις των Συναδέλφων, 2026). An earlier version of this text was presented at an event dedicated to the book last March in Athens. The publication of the DSM-5 in 2013 sparked a storm of reactions from all parties involved. Within the British Psychological Society, a working sub-group was formed, which drew on a vast body of research data and in 2018 delivered the proposed Framework as a holistic way of understanding and intervening in psychological distress.
