New Scientist discusses the reasons that eight US professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Public Health Association “collectively took a stand against a law that on the face of it, seems like plain common sense.”

The article examines why these organizations think it’s a bad idea to force mental health professionals to disclose information about patients to the government and forbid physicians from talking with patients about guns.
